History of H&D Technologies

Who are we and what do we stand for?

Founded in 1995, HD Tech is a complete technology solution provider dedicated to ensuring business owners in LA/Orange County receive the most reliable and professional IT services. Our team of talented IT professionals is committed to solving your IT challenges while enabling a path to high productivity.

When I founded the company with John Dankha in 1995 we decided upon our mission. We were going to give large business IT capabilities to small and medium sized businesses on a cost effective basis to lower risk and increase productivity and profitability. That mission has stood the test of time for 30 years. We believed at that time - and still do today - that properly implemented technology is a strategic advantage-not just an expense on the P&L - and that properly implemented tech is a force multiplier for a well-run organization.

Over the last 10 years the threat of cyber attacks has changed our focus. Because of the direct experience we have acquired dealing with cyber attacks on many businesses, we have developed a saying ‘It’s not if…It’s when’. Cyber criminals have the 3 worst advantages over us: unlimited time, unlimited resources and no consequences. As a result, we have seen unprecedented cyber crime over the last several years. There are many stats on cyber crime but two of the most telling are these. US businesses lost 12.4 billion dollars to cyber crime in 2023 and over 60% of businesses who are successfully attacked go out of business within a year. Sobering numbers to be sure! Over the last 5 years we have partnered with a leading Incident Response company to provide remediation services to those businesses who have been attacked. This experience has enabled us to create a robust plan of preparation based on real world experience dealing with these devastating attacks.

But there is hope! Many of our competitors focus on the ‘if’ referenced above, or trying to keep the cyber criminals out of systems. While this must be done and done well, it misses the mark. How? If the cyber bad guys want to get to you, they target you or target a zero day exploit you are vulnerable for, they will get in. Preparing for the ‘when’ means (in cyber circles this is called the ‘right of boom’) that you know they are in your systems, you lock them out, figure out how they got in, eliminate that access hole, and mitigate any damage they have done so you get back online quickly, cost effectively and with the least amount of stress to the organization as possible. Our focus is on cyber preparation not simply prevention.

The best way to ‘prepare’ is to have a plan, and the best plans have been developed into frameworks specific to industry. CMMC, NIST, HIPAA and a host of other frameworks allow us to ‘cover all the bases’ of preparedness in a systematic way to ensure robust compliance. We use automated tools coupled with a thorough understanding of the controls to form our preparation plans.

While we still focus on running your systems well to achieve high uptime, much of the work we perform is now focused and impacted by the necessity of preparing for the ‘when’. In this way everything we do is cyber security focused.
